I posted my review of Zoe's Tale by John Scalzi (US, UK, Canada) over at FantasyBookSpot. Zoe's Tale is the retelling of the events of “The Last Colony” through the eyes of the daughter of the main protagonists in the earlier novel. What drove me nuts about this book was how perky it was. John Scalzi's *Zoe's Tale*, reviewed and recommended science fiction book. Soon backstabbing interns, a runaway Cinderella, and cutthroat competition make Zoe's job more like a nightmare than a fairy tale. First Day of School, 2008 · Dogs and Cats, Living Together · Athena Reads "Zoe's Tale" · Athena and her Bubblewrap Armor · Ghlaghghee meets Hugo. Summary: Zoe's Tale is a companion novel to (or a retelling of) The Last Colony. I have to say that this one is Scalzi's best book yet and I really enjoyed it. I'm not sure if you'd like it more or less having read it, but it manages to stand pretty well on its own. Apparently, Zoe's Tale is a parallel story to The Last Colony, which I didn't realize because I hadn't read The Last Colony. Great as a standalone and fits well in the Old Man's War universe. The story is from the standpoint of Zoe, the adopted daughter of the main characters from Old Man's War and The Ghost Brigades.
